Speakers
Vibor Laketa
Head of Infectious Diseases Imaging Platform (IDIP), Center for Integrative Infectious Disease Research (CIID), Deutsches Zentrum für Infektionsforschung (DZIF), University Hospital Heidelberg
Vibor obtained his PhD at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, Germany where he worked on automated microscopy setups for high-content screening approaches and their application in investigating diverse cellular processes such as signal transduction, vesicle trafficking and neuronal growth. After the PhD he continued his research as a staff scientist at the EMBL where he operated at the interface between advanced light microscopy, robotics, chemical biology and cell biology. In 2013. he joined Department of Infectious Diseases (since 2018 in Center for Integrative Infectious Disease Research, CIID) in Heidelberg to establish the microscopy infrastructure under the enhanced biosafety conditions (BSL2/BSL3) to enable imaging on infectious human pathogens. As head of Infectious Diseases Imaging Platform (IDIP) he is mentoring the advanced light microscopy-based research projects in CIID and German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). He is enthusiastic about teaching diverse aspects of light microscopy technologies and digital image handling and believes that science is great but we should and can do much better.
Severina Klaus
Severina studied in Heidelberg where she also obtained her PhD in parasitology in 2022. Since then she is splitting her time working as a research scientist in virology and working as a microscopy application specialist in the Infectious Diseases Imaging Platform (IDIP) at the Center for Integrative Infectious Disease Research (CIID) in Heidelberg. Her work covers basic aspects of cell biology and infectiology and centers around advanced microscopy approaches with a focus on live-cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy and image analysis
Jana Christopher
Jana has worked in Image Integrity since 2011, she was the first Data Integrity Analyst at EMBO Press and joined the Federation of European Biological Societies (FEBS) in 2017 as Image Data Integrity Analyst for the 4 journals at FEBS Press.
Jana founded her own business Image-Integrity in 2015 and works as a regular consultant for The Royal Society. She chairs the STM Image Integrity Working Group, and recently produced a series of video tutorials on image integrity screening for STM.
Jana is an experienced consultant and trainer for various publishers/journals including SpringerNature, eLife, Frontiers, PNAS and the RSC, and regularly presents to students and early career scientists.
Christian Schmidt
Christian is a trained biologist who received his PhD at the University of Konstanz, where he worked on the molecular mechanisms of selective immunoproteasome inhibition in primary lymphocytes. After completing a Postdoctoral Position in the field of Biochemical Pharmacology (topics: extra-adrenal glucocorticoids and nuclear receptors), he shifted his career path to science management in 2020, with a focus on infrastructure for research data management in microscopy. As the coordinator of the NFDI4BIOIMAGE initiative, he was involved in building up the now-established NFDI consortium from the ground up. As of 2022, he also coordinated the smaller-scale DFG project “Information Infrastructure for BioImage Data” (I3D:bio), which supports the deployment of OMERO instances for practical bioimage data management in Germany. With a focus on training and network coordination, he contributes to workshops and conferences in the field of bioimage data management.
